Docile and Easy to Care For: What You Need to Know Before Getting a Leopard Gecko - The Perfect Pet for Lizard Lovers

Leopard geckos, or eublephars, are easy-to-care-for yet docile lizards.

This is what attracts both beginners and experienced aquarists.

However, if this is your first lizard, then before purchasing a gecko you should familiarize yourself with the requirements for its maintenance.

Terrarium

Despite its rather modest size (the eublefar reaches 20-25 cm in length), it requires a fairly spacious home.

To make the lizard feel comfortable, it is recommended to choose a terrarium measuring 45x45x30 cm. It must be equipped with a lid, otherwise the active pet will quickly escape.

Zonality

The main difficulty you will face is to provide the correct temperature conditions for the eublefar. A special thermal mat will help you with this.

The terrarium should have two zones: cool and warm. If the temperature in the first should not exceed 26 degrees above zero, then in the second it should be 28-33 degrees so that the pet warms up in it after eating.

Priming

Leopard geckos love to dig, so a special desert soil would be ideal for them.

The terrarium must also contain:

  • ultraviolet lamp;
  • damp moulting corner;
  • shelters and snags;
  • a drinking bowl in which the water is changed every day.
