Not a Hug: How to Show You Truly Love Your Pets
How do we humans express our love for each other?
With gentle words, hugs and kisses. But with animals this approach does not always work.
Sweet hugs make them feel uncomfortable and anxious, kisses on the nose or forehead are incomprehensible to a cat or dog... How can you make your pet see, hear and feel your love and affection?
If we are talking about cats, then they perfectly understand such manifestations of love as stroking, affectionate words and looks.
But it is better not to look at your beloved cat with wide open eyes: they may perceive this as an aggressive gesture. It is better to squint slightly and blink slowly, looking the animal in the eyes.
Does your cat show affection by headbutting your arm or leg? You can also give your pet a gentle headbutt during play.
There is no need to move the animal away when it rubs against you, but if you are concerned about the cleanliness of your clothes, place your hand with an open palm under the animal’s head.
In the wild, animals show care for each other by sorting through and licking the fur of their partner or their own cub.
You can also gently run your fingers through your cat or dog's fur. Since not all pets tolerate brushing well, you can return them to childhood by stroking the animal's fur with a soft, slightly damp cloth. It will remind the kitty or dog of how their mother licked them.
Is your cat actively meowing or purring when she climbs into your arms? To respond to her display of attention and feelings, meow and purr in response, preferably in the same tone and with the same intonations.
After all, cats don’t understand human words, but they will understand their own language, even if distorted, more quickly.
Dogs also want to express their love not only by licking their owner's face. If your dog has stolen your T-shirt, winter jacket and is comfortably lying on it, don't rush to scold your pet.
In this way, the dog lets you know that your things and your smell are very valuable and dear to him.
Do you really want to show your dog how much and how much you love him? Don't rush to hug and kiss him. Instead, choose a moment when the dog is sitting next to you and press your head or your side against his soft side.
This kind of physical contact is a great way to express your feelings. And instead of kissing, you can please your dog by scratching him behind the ears.
Dogs are very social creatures and miss their beloved owner. Do you want to please your dog and show that you love him? Take him with you on a car ride if you are going not far and for a short time. Few dogs would refuse such a mini-trip, especially with their dear owner in the company.
And, of course, you should talk to your dog. And it is not so much the content of the words that is important, but the intonation with which they are spoken.
And try to avoid long phrases like "You are my such a wonderful dog!", but short ones like "Clever girl", "Beauty!", "My darling". Brevity is the sister of not only talent, but also of a sincere expression of feelings. At least in animals.
