Vets Are Silent: This Common Fridge Product Is Killing Your Cat

Do you put something in your pet's bowl that seems healthy, and a year later you wonder why he has kidney problems?

You may have been poisoning your cat for years without even realizing it. I'm talking about milk. Yes, the same milk that cats lap up with pleasure in cartoons.

But the reality is cruel: most adult cats are lactose intolerant. After a portion of milk, they start to have diarrhea, bloating, and constant feeding of "treats" leads to chronic diseases. But how then to treat your pet?

The secret is in special lactose-free products or goat's milk, which is easier to digest. And cats also love... meat broth.

Boil the chicken without salt, cool the broth and offer it instead of water. It is both tasty and healthy. But the main danger is not only in milk. Grapes, onions, chocolate - even a crumb of these products can cause poisoning.

Remember: if you want to pamper your cat, buy a bag of wet food or a piece of boiled chicken. And never believe stereotypes - your cat should not suffer because of the myth of "happy milk".

But let's dig deeper. Why is milk so dangerous? Cats, like humans, lose the enzyme lactase, which breaks down lactose, as they age.

While a kitten can still digest its mother's milk, in an adult animal it causes fermentation in the intestines.

Not only is this uncomfortable, but there is also a risk of dehydration due to diarrhea. And if the cat regularly receives milk, intestinal inflammation can develop into chronic pancreatitis or even kidney failure.

What to do if your pet drinks milk? First of all, don’t panic. A one-time incident rarely leads to serious consequences. Offer your cat more water and observe its condition.

If vomiting or lethargy occurs, take your dog to the vet. But it’s better to prevent the problem. Are you used to giving milk as a “reward”? Replace it with baby meat puree (without salt or onions!) or tuna pieces in their own juice.

There is also a myth that cats need milk to make their fur shiny. This is not true! The health of the fur depends on the protein and fats that the pet gets from meat.

If the fur has become dull, add salmon oil or Omega-3 vitamins to the diet. And remember: cats are predators, their bodies are tuned to meat, not dairy products.

By the way, not all fermented milk products are prohibited. Some cats tolerate natural yogurt without additives or low-fat cottage cheese well. But you need to introduce them by the teaspoon, monitoring the reaction. And no cheese!

Salt, spices and fat make it dangerous even for healthy animals.

If you still have doubts, conduct an experiment. Remove milk from the diet for a month and observe: will the digestive problems disappear, will the cat become more active. Most likely, the result will surprise you.

And so that your pet doesn’t miss his usual “treat,” buy him some cat grass or sprouted oats—it’s both healthy and distracts him from bad habits.
