When it comes time to choose wallpaper for the kitchen, you can easily get confused if you don’t remember a few important requirements for wallpaper that should be in the kitchen.
Indeed, today manufacturers offer so many design options that you want to change your wallpaper every month.
But let's not do anything stupid, and let's choose wallpaper that will last at least three years, or even five to ten years, as professional designer Yulia Tychino insists on.
First, remember that kitchen wallpaper should be washable and not absorb the smells of cooking food. Thus, all options for paper and textile wallpaper are out of the question.
Also, you should not choose wallpaper with a three-dimensional pattern - dust will settle on the elements of the pattern, and together with the oil evaporating during cooking, the wallpaper will become dirty, which is very difficult to wash off.
Thus, there are two wallpaper options left - paper-based with impregnation or vinyl.
Paper wallpaper suitable for the kitchen is impregnated with a water-repellent mixture, but it is relatively unstable and quickly fades.
Paper wallpaper with a vinyl layer is better, but a little more expensive than paper with impregnation. The general disadvantage of paper wallpaper is the following - they are thin, so they require perfectly smooth walls to look good.
Vinyl wallpaper should also be chosen carefully, as it comes in different densities. Thicker ones are suitable for the kitchen, you can choose such wallpaper with a variety of patterns, silk-screen printing, vinyl wallpaper for painting will also work.
But at this stage, when the type of wallpaper is chosen, you can move on to choosing the design. Unfortunately, most of us live in apartments with small kitchens, therefore, you should not choose wallpaper for the kitchen in bright colors and with colorful patterns.
If the kitchen is constantly dark, then choose light and warm tones (for example, beige, apricot), but if the kitchen is constantly sunny, then cool colors (blue, light green) are more suitable.
And of course, the wallpaper colors should please you and create coziness.
And finally, one more piece of advice: it is better to buy wallpaper, like other finishing materials, with a reserve - in other batches of the same wallpaper there may be rolls that differ in shade. And the reserve that remains may come in handy if your neighbors flood you and you need to replace a small amount of wallpaper.
