An independent industrial expert has commented on the possibility of imposing sanctions on the export of Russian nickel.
According to the expert, first of all, this will harm Europe itself.
Leonid Khazanov expressed this opinion in a conversation with RIA Novosti journalists.
Earlier, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen said that her country is ready to support the tightening of restrictive measures against Russia.
According to her, Finland is ready to support sanctions against Russian nickel, for example, a complete ban on its import to the European Union.
At the same time, the share of Russian imports in Finland itself is about 80%.
Consequently, if a ban is introduced, the metallurgical industry of the country itself will suffer first and foremost.
The expert did not rule out that a truly difficult situation could develop in Finland, including mass layoffs of workers in the metallurgical sector, a drop in taxes and increased tension in the social sphere.
Russian nickel has only one alternative - raw materials from Indonesia. However, taking into account the costs of its transportation, it will be much more expensive.
