Not all summer residents and gardeners pay attention to the proximity of some plants to others.

But in vain: if you don’t know which neighbors are harmful to berries, you can lose almost your entire harvest.

Together with the expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , we figure out which plants should never be planted next to strawberries.

Bad Neighborhood for Strawberries

Plants that can harm the future strawberry harvest are dangerous for it for the following reasons:

  • higher risk of spreading the same pests;
  • decreased immunity of the strawberry plant;
  • crop loss;
  • reduction of the life of bushes.

Potatoes are the first bad neighbors for strawberries. If these two crops grow next to each other, then both suffer from wireworms and late blight.

You can’t plant berries next to tomatoes either: the risk of infection with fungal diseases increases significantly.

Raspberries become a source of viral diseases for strawberries, and eggplants can “reward” the berries with aphids, nematodes and mites.

And although peppers do not have many common pests with strawberries, they will oppress berry bushes and significantly reduce fruiting. Therefore, they should not be planted next to each other.
