The choice of method depends on how thoroughly the weed has “settled” in the area.

Ground elder is an ambiguous weed. Some cherish this plant, because it is used in folk medicine. Some are looking for ways to rid the plot of this weed.

It should be noted that the plant is distinguished by its vitality and is on par with dandelions in this regard.

The plant's roots are long and fragile. With regular weeding, there is a 100% chance that they will remain in the soil and give life to a new plant.

But there are working methods to combat goutweed. And it can be done without herbicides.

First option

It is used when there is little goutweed and it has not yet managed to thoroughly take over the area.

You just need to pull the plant out by the roots. But you need to do this before the leaves bloom. This is a must.

Otherwise, the plant will gain enough strength. The fight against it will drag on. After several unsuccessful attempts to germinate, the plant will exhaust its resources and die.

Second option

It is useful for those cases when there is really a lot of goutweed. Not everyone wants to run around with a shovel or a scythe.

The place where goutweed grows should be covered with thick black agrotextile, film or other material that does not let light through.

You can even use fiberboard, boards, old linoleum, roofing felt, etc.

The idea is to deprive the plant of access to sun and water, to create unfavorable conditions.

The plants will die, and the stems, roots and seeds will rot in the soil, losing their ability to germinate.

But the downside of the method is that the result takes time. The covering material must lie for at least a year.
