Carrots are one of the most useful and popular vegetables, which are used in various dishes and salads.
Carrots contain many vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that strengthen the immune system and health.
However, to get a good carrot harvest, you need to follow some rules for planting and care, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .
To grow carrots, you need to choose high-quality and fresh seeds that have good germination and resistance to diseases.
It is advisable to choose seeds from trusted producers or from your own harvest. Carrot seeds should be soaked in warm water for 12 hours before planting to speed up germination.
How to Prepare Soil for Carrots
Carrots like loose, fertile and well-drained soil. Before planting carrots, you need to dig the soil to a depth of 25-30 centimeters and remove all stones, roots and weeds.
You also need to add organic fertilizers such as compost, humus or peat. It is not recommended to add fresh manure, as it can cause cracking of root crops.
Carrots can be planted in late April or early May, when the soil warms up to 10-12 degrees.
Carrot seeds should be sown to a depth of 1-2 centimeters with an interval of 3-5 centimeters between rows.
After planting, you need to water the bed with warm water and cover it with agrofibre or film to create a greenhouse effect. When the first shoots appear, you need to remove the cover and thin out the plants, leaving 5-7 centimeters between them.
Carrots need to be watered regularly, especially in hot and dry weather. Watering should be moderate but deep so that the water reaches the roots. It is also necessary to loosen the soil between the rows and remove weeds.
To prevent diseases and pests, you can treat carrots with infusions of garlic, onions or tobacco. To stimulate the growth of root crops, you can feed carrots once every two weeks with complex mineral fertilizers.
