You can prune raspberries both in autumn and in spring.

When to prune bushes

The best time to prune raspberries is at the end of March or the beginning of April.

Moreover, this will depend on weather conditions.

It is important that there is no more snow, but the ground has not yet warmed up.

How to trim

In spring, all bad shoots should be removed from the bushes.

Therefore, you can safely cut off dry, damaged and weak branches.

It is advisable to trim the remaining branches to the first healthy bud. This will help stimulate the awakening of the buds.

You can also trim the bushes to different heights. Then the raspberries will not all ripen at once, and this process can be stretched out over the entire summer period.

For example, some bushes can be cut by ten centimeters, and some by almost half the height of the bush.

What to do after pruning

It is important to take into account that after pruning, the bushes will begin to grow a lot of green mass.

Therefore, you need to make sure that the raspberries receive a sufficient amount of nutrients.

In this case, it will be necessary to apply fertilizers in a timely manner.
