Early spring is the time of nature’s awakening and the start of the summer cottage season.
It is during this period that the foundation for the future currant harvest is laid.
In order for your bushes to delight you with an abundance of juicy berries, it is important to carry out a number of measures aimed at improving their health and stimulating growth, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .
First of all, the currants need to be trimmed. Remove all dry, broken and diseased branches.
Do not spare old shoots that are no longer bearing fruit well – give way to the young and strong.
Proper pruning forms a beautiful bush, improves its illumination and air permeability, which in turn helps prevent diseases and increase yields.
After pruning, currants need fertilizing. In early spring, nitrogen fertilizer is ideal.
It stimulates the growth of green mass and the formation of flower buds. You can use both mineral fertilizers, such as urea, and organic matter - rotted manure or compost.
Don't forget about disease and pest prevention. In early spring, treat currant bushes with special preparations against kidney mites, aphids and other pests.
To prevent fungal diseases, spray the bushes with Bordeaux mixture or other copper-containing preparations.
Earlier we talked about carnivorous plants .
