In order for pears to be tasty and fresh even in winter, you must, first of all, choose the right variety.

Autumn and winter varieties are Lyubimitsa Yakovleva, Mramornaya Grusha, Naryadnaya Efimova, Bere Bosk and Pervomayskaya.

When to harvest and how to prepare for storage

The pear should be picked with the stems on it, and the fruit itself should be slightly unripe. The pears should easily come off the branches.

You can store them unwashed in the freezer, placing them in a plastic bag with holes in it to allow air to pass through.

Another good place to store fruits is in wooden boxes, but do not leave them on the floor, it is better to put them on a rack or stand.

If you store pears in an apartment, a balcony or a storage room are better suited for this.

You can put pears in a box, cover them with dry leaves or sand, but do not wash them. The refrigerator is also good for storing fruit, but the temperature in it should be 1-4 degrees Celsius.

Freezer

To store pears in the freezer, first wash them and then cut them into medium pieces.

To prevent them from sticking to each other, they should be slightly frozen by laying them out in a single layer on a board or in a container and leaving them in the freezer for 5 hours.

After this, they must be placed in bags or containers, removing excess air. There should be some space left in the container.

Storage

For fresh pears, the shelf life is 2-4 months. There should be no fungi, mold, or temperature fluctuations.

The fruits must be sorted and damaged ones removed. It is better to disinfect the cellar or basement beforehand.

Ventilate the fruit storage area periodically. Pears should be kept separate from vegetables that have a strong aroma, as they can transfer their smell to the pears.
