Composting helps convert organic waste into useful fertilizer.
However, not everything can be thrown into the compost pit.
Some materials not only do not decompose, but can also cause harm.
Inorganic materials
Do not add artificial textiles, ceramics, metal or plastic to the compost.
These materials do not decompose and, when exposed to heat, can release toxic substances.
Sharp objects
Wood chips, pine cones and rose stems with thorns are not suitable for compost. They decompose slowly and can negatively affect the microflora of the compost.
Animal waste
Bones, meat, fat and raw fish quickly rot and attract rodents.
Waste products
Manure from herbivores can be used if it is not contaminated. However, it is better not to add other waste to the compost pile.
Diseased and poisonous plants
Plants treated with chemicals or diseased crops are dangerous to compost.
