Today, Orthodox believers honor the memory of the holy martyr Agrippina of Rome.
Among the people, this celebration is called Agrafena Kupalnitsa.
In Rus', on this day it was customary to visit a bathhouse and perform ablutions in order to wash away all negativity.
In addition, it was necessary to collect medicinal plants on this day.
Agrippina of Rome lived in the 3rd century AD. She was born in Rome, into a pagan family. However, at an early age she decided to become a Christian.
Agrippina accepted baptism and began to preach the teachings of the Son of God among her friends and relatives. Thus, later, the idolaters became widely aware of her.
For such an offense as Christian preaching, the future saint was seized by pagans and thrown into prison, where she was subsequently subjected to a series of tortures.
However, even unbearable physical suffering did not turn away the preacher’s love for Jesus Christ and his teachings.
The tortured Roman woman eventually died. However, before her death, she managed to guide many people onto the path of love for the Lord and Christianity.
On this day, many people followed certain rules:
It was on July 6 that it was considered a grave sin to commit ungodly acts, namely, to hunt animals and pick plants. Otherwise, according to beliefs, a period of significant deprivation and poverty, as well as failures in personal life, would come.
Today it is recommended to start the day with a prayer to the Higher Powers. In particular, it is worth visiting the church.
It is also worth asking the Almighty for help in matters concerning family and harvest.
