Today, Orthodox believers honor the memory of Eutychius, who was one of the closest disciples of John the Theologian.

Among the people, this celebration is called the Day of Eutychius the Quiet.

In Rus', on this day it was customary to observe the quiet dawns and watch the scarlet sunset.

Eutychius lived at the turn of the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. He was born in Sebastea of Palestine.

Eutychius was a pagan until he accidentally heard the preaching of Jesus Christ.

Then the future believer went to study with John Bogolsov. Later he became a companion of the Apostle Paul and began to preach Christianity just like him.

Eutychius zealously served God until one day he was captured and subjected to cruel, exhausting torture.

Despite the abuse, the believer endured everything for the sake of his religious beliefs. In the end, he was thrown to wild animals to be eaten, but he survived.

The animals, instantly becoming meek, did not touch the saint, but began to speak with human voices and glorified Christ.

Eutyches eventually died, beheaded by the imperial sword.
