A flight attendant suddenly fell out of a plane after opening the door before take-off at East Midlands Airport.
She opened the plane door, expecting the ladder to still be attached, but it was not there.
A flight attendant fell from a plane and was injured, Metro reports, citing Nottinghamshire live.
Emergency services, ambulances and the airport fire brigade immediately arrived at the scene.
The injured woman was airlifted to Nottingham Royal Infirmary for treatment.
At present, no details are available about the injured woman's condition.
One source said the flight attendant opened the door, took a step and fell.
For an unspecified reason, the ladder was not there, and the employee fell onto the asphalt and received serious injuries.
The Air Accident Investigation Department has begun investigating the incident.
A statement from the department said: "The AAIB was notified of an accident that occurred at East Midlands Airport on 16 December and an investigation has been launched."
The victim was taken to hospital by East Midlands Ambulance Service.
