Former South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun attempted to commit suicide in a pretrial detention center.
He is currently in a protective cell in the isolation ward.
Kim Yong Hyun's life is not in danger, Yonhap News Agency reported.
According to a representative of the correctional service, the condition of the former Minister of Defense does not cause concern.
Days earlier, a South Korean court remanded former Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun into custody.
He apparently played a major role in implementing the country's President Yun Seok-yeol's decision to introduce martial law.
Kim Yong Hyun is said to be the first person to be investigated for the December 3 violations.
He attempted suicide in the toilet before the warrant was issued. The officers responded in time, opened the door and prevented the attempt.
Kim Yong Hyun is currently under guard and is in good health.
