Representatives of human rights organizations have appealed to the authorities of the European Union.

Activists have called for sanctions against Israel over the killing of journalists in Gaza.

RIA Novosti reports this with reference to a collective statement addressed by representatives of 60 human rights organizations to Josep Borrell and Valdis Dombrovsky.

Activists from Reporters Without Borders and other similar organizations have reported that journalists' rights are being violated in the most flagrant manner in the conflict zone in the Middle East.

The document specifies that since the start of hostilities, more than a hundred journalists have been killed, including media workers from Palestine, Israel, and Lebanon.

This period has already been dubbed the most deadly for journalists in decades.

At the same time, representatives of human rights organizations expressed regret that not all European states have condemned the events that are currently taking place in Gaza.

They therefore believe that the EU should insist that Israel meet the following demands:

  • lifting the blockade that prevents journalists from visiting the Gaza Strip themselves;
  • release of Palestinian journalists;
  • opening access to Israel and the Gaza Strip for international investigations.
