A room filled to the ceiling with gifts was discovered in Bashar al-Assad's palace in Damascus.

At one time he received valuable items from visitors from all over the world.

Among the numerous items found in the room were plaques and busts depicting Assad himself, the New York Times reports.

A camel over half a meter tall with a saddle decorated with precious stones and a gold lock in a large green case were also found there.

Among other iconic items, a photograph of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and her husband Prince Philip from 2002 was found.

A signed portrait of the queen was among the treasures in Bashar al-Assad's palace in Damascus, which is now captured by rebels.

A portrait of Elizabeth II, busts of leaders, a golden castle and portraits were part of the Assad collection in the palace.
