State Department: US Allows Use of Nuclear Weapons to Defend Japan
The United States has spoken out about Japan's security.
Washington's official position is that it is prepared to use nuclear weapons to defend Tokyo.
This opinion was voiced by US Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Kritenbrink. As RIA Novosti reports, the statement was made ahead of Antony Blinken's tour to the Asia-Pacific region.
The State Department representative recalled the commitments that the United States has made to Japan.
According to Kritenbrink, this is why the country is ready to use any means that will help protect Japan's security.
He did not rule out that these could include nuclear weapons, which Washington intends to use if necessary.
As the US Secretary of State's representative noted, the region is facing unprecedented threats, which Washington intends to counter together with Tokyo.
In this way, the US believes, not only the protection of Japan, but also of the entire region as a whole will be ensured.
