The Tallinn City Hall has decided to rename Moscow Boulevard.

Now the entire section, which was previously divided into 250 meters of Moscow Boulevard and 1200 meters of Saaremaa Boulevard, will become Saaremaa Boulevard.

Deputy Mayor of Tallinn Madle Lippus noted that the renaming of the boulevard is an example of support for freedom and democracy, reports the ERR television company.

She also added that using a single geographical name would make travel easier.

Previously, the non-parliamentary party "Estonian Greens" proposed naming the street in honor of Kyiv.

However, in 2022, the mayor of Tallinn decided not to change the established traditions in city names.

After the change of power in 2024, Tallinn decided to get rid of the name Moskovsky Boulevard.

On October 15, the city hall officially declared the name given in 1986 invalid.

In February of this year, Riga Vice Mayor Edwards Ratnieks announced plans to rename streets whose names are associated with Russian writers.
