Trump said Türkiye had wanted to overthrow Assad and his government for "a thousand years" and had achieved its goal.

According to him, the people who have now taken control of Syria are working in the interests of the Turkish side.

Official Ankara, however, denies any involvement in Assad’s overthrow.

The country's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan insisted that Türkiye was not involved in the Syrian opposition operation that recently led to the collapse of the Assad administration.
