Türkiye, under pressure from the US, is forced to reduce trade with Russia.

Deputy Chairman of the Turkish Vatan ("Homeland") Party Hakan Topkurulu spoke about the possible consequences for Turkish banks.

The US has threatened to cut off Turkish banks from the SWIFT system and dollar payments, RIA Novosti reports.

According to Topkurulu, this could seriously affect trade relations with Russia.

He also noted that Türkiye cannot oppose Washington's pressure due to the threat of an embargo on international trade with the SWIFT system in dollars.

Topkurulu stressed that Ankara conducts most of its trade in the American currency.

The United States has warned Turkey of consequences if it does not restrict the export of a number of American goods to Russia.

US Assistant Secretary of Commerce Matthew Axelrod reminded Ankara that Türkiye must stop the flow of American technology to Russia.

Turkey fears that continued trade with Russia could lead to new sanctions and economic restrictions.
