A man who tried to smuggle contraband out of Russia was detained in Makhachkala.

The FSB Public Relations Center reported the incident, RIA Novosti reports.
According to preliminary estimates by the special services, the value of the homemade bars and scrap gold jewelry was estimated at 142 million rubles.
The suspect was detained at the scene of the crime, and a criminal case was opened against him under the article on smuggling.
According to the FSB, the discovery was made at the international airport in the city of Makhachkala.
The man intended to take away 54 gold bars, made in a handicraft way, as well as scrap jewelry of various sizes and weights. For this, the criminal made a special corset, where he hid the valuable cargo weighing about 28 kilograms.
However, the man failed to pass the checkpoint with the valuable cargo. Customs officers stopped him and confiscated the gold that he intended to take out of the country.
