A married couple was attacked by taxi drivers near one of the prestigious hotels in Casablanca.
A Russian diplomat and his wife found themselves at the epicenter of a conflict between “gypsy cabbies” and a taxi driver who works through an aggregator.
The conflict occurred when Russian citizens left the hotel and tried to get into a car ordered through an app, MWN reports.
At this point, their path was blocked by drivers who work without an aggregator and look for potential clients near hotels.
An argument ensued, which escalated into a brawl. The tourists and their driver were beaten by the "gypsy cabbies".
Hotel staff came to their aid, called the police and separated the fighters.
It is noted that the victims are a diplomat and his wife, who, after a working trip to Rabat, decided to vacation in Casablanca.
The aggressive taxi drivers were detained. The instigator was sent to a pretrial detention center, two others were released on bail.
It is noted that in Morocco, too, there are tense relations between official taxi drivers and taxi drivers who prefer to work independently.
The latter are offended that aggregators are depriving them of the lion's share of their earnings.
