A Chinese woman has died 10 days after undergoing a series of laser procedures to remove age spots and moles.
A young woman from Tianjin, a northern city in China, had multiple dark and large spots on her body.
A Chinese woman was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis and café au lait spots, which required sessions of procedures to remove them, the South China Morning Post reports.
The young woman underwent nine laser treatments at a private clinic in Tianjin for more than 100,000 yuan (US$14,000).
However, after the treatment, the Chinese woman said her condition was getting worse. During the 10th treatment, she felt dizzy after an anaesthetic cream was applied.
Although doctors quickly removed the cream, the patient went into shock, convulsions and cardiac arrest.
The woman was transferred to another hospital, but died 10 days later. Doctors said she died from complications due to excessive intracranial pressure.
The Chinese woman's husband suspects that too much anesthetic caused an allergic reaction and death.
The Chinese woman's friend said doctors missed a critical moment to save her life.
Chinese experts have called for the operations to be carried out in reputable state hospitals where legal norms are observed.
