Confrontation with the accused in the plot to assassinate Simonyan
Last year, it became known about a planned assassination attempt on the editor-in-chief of the media group "Russia Today" and RT, Margarita Simonyan, as well as journalist Ksenia Sobchak.
The assassination attempt was prevented in time, and eight people were arrested in connection with the case.
The case materials were received by the RIA Novosti agency.
As the media reports, a preventive measure has already been chosen for eight suspects.
As it turned out, a confrontation had already been held with the defendants in the attempted murder case. No other information about the investigation has been reported yet.
Circumstances of the case
Plans to kill Margarita Simonyan and Ksenia Sobchak by Ukrainian special services became known in July 2023.
In Moscow, members of a neo-Nazi group called “Paragraph 88” were tracked down and detained, and weapons prepared for an assassination attempt were confiscated from them.
We are talking about a Kalashnikov assault rifle with cartridges for it, as well as brass knuckles, batons and other weapons.
As the investigation revealed, the Security Service of Ukraine promised the perpetrators of the murder 1.5 million rubles for the job.
