An ambulance took Thompson to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

As one of the largest insurance companies in the United States, UnitedHealth Group was preparing for an investor conference.

Police believe Thompson was the target of an armed attack.

The shooter apparently knew which door Thompson was going to enter, so the shot was fired at close range.

The criminal fired a shot, then ran, jumped on a bicycle and rode away.

No arrests have been reported so far. The murder investigation is ongoing.
