Later, journalists contacted the child's father.

He said he was unaware of his wife's decision to leave the newborn in the shopping centre.

The man said he would take his son. He also added that his wife probably suffered from postpartum depression.

The Russian stressed that the child’s health and safety are the priority now.

He will pick up the baby from the shopping center, and then the rest of the issues will be resolved.

The city headquarters of the Investigative Committee of Russia has already responded to the situation.

A pre-investigation check has been launched into the incident under Article 125 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abandonment in danger).
