Russians are falling victim to a new scam called "Spoofing".

The details were reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on its Telegram channel.

Spoofing is a cyber attack in which scammers pretend to be a friend or company in order to gain a person's trust.

Using a friend as an example, it looks like this: a person receives an incoming call, a familiar number is displayed, but a fraudster enters the conversation.

In the case of a company, a single number is used, but it is not the company representatives who communicate with the victim, but the scammers.

In addition, scammers distribute links to fake websites that are used to steal money and personal data.

The "Spoofing" scheme also includes sending out a malicious document or program.

If you open it, you can get a virus on your smartphone or computer that will spy on the user or even give scammers remote access to the device.
