However, this is not a reason to despair: you just need to fluff up the fluff correctly, and the item will be like new again.
How to fluff up down in a down jacket
First, get a few tennis balls (children's wooden blocks will do the same job) and throw them in the washing machine along with the down jacket. This will prevent the down from bunching up.
Secondly, after washing, hang the clothes on a hanger and fluff up the fluff at the bottom: this is where it gets bunched up under the weight of the moisture.
If it is already a stable minus outside, then after washing you can hang it on the balcony with the windows open and wait until the fluff freezes. It is easier to distribute solid filler than wet one.
You can also fluff up the fluff in the washing machine itself. To do this, run it in the "drying" or "spinning" mode, not forgetting to add cubes or tennis balls to the machine, as advised above.
