No more musty smell from laundry after washing: get rid of “aromas” with improvised means
Many people have encountered such an unpleasant phenomenon when freshly washed clothes smell musty.
There may be several reasons for this, but you can deal with them using available means.
Let's figure out how to restore freshness to just washed items.
The reason for the musty smell
A musty smell appears for a number of reasons:
- the washing machine drum has not been cleaned for a long time or has not been allowed to dry after washing;
- the laundry was not allowed to dry completely;
- the items were soaked in powder for a long time or too much detergent was added during washing.
How to get rid of mustiness
Baking soda or citric acid will come to your aid.
In the first case, half a pack of powder should be poured into the detergent compartment and the wash should be started at 30 degrees.
If you decide to use citric acid, keep in mind that the required dose is calculated depending on the capacity of the machine. 3 tablespoons are enough to clean a washing machine for 3-4 kilograms of laundry, 3.5 tablespoons - 5-7 kg and 5 tablespoons if the machine is designed for a larger weight of things.
The temperature should be set to 58–60 °C, or the maximum if the contamination is severe.
