What Your Carpets Are Hiding: You Won't Believe Your Eyes

Your carpet is a biochemical time bomb.

A study by Environmental Science & Technology found that 1 gram of carpet dust contains up to 200,000 bacteria, including salmonella and staphylococcus.

But what does it look like? Photographer David Miles used a microscope with 500x magnification - his pictures are on display at the Natural History Museum in London. In the photo: a carpet after 5 years of use has turned into a "jungle" of mold, wool and mite larvae.

Salvation is a steam generator. Temperature of 120°C kills 99.9% of germs and dissolves fat.

“After steam cleaning, my child stopped getting ear infections,” says Olga from Kyiv.

But steam is taboo for silk carpets! Dubai restorer Ali advises: "Clean them with snow. Sprinkle it on the carpet, rub it with a brush - the dirt will be absorbed into the melting water. The method has been used in Persian museums for 300 years!"

Lifehack for the lazy: Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet, leave overnight, then vacuum.

“The baking soda absorbed the smell of cat urine, which was 5 years old!” Maria from Kazan rejoices.

Important! Do not use soda on colored carpets - a white film may appear. Activated carbon is suitable for dark fabrics.
