The Kremlin commented on the appointment of the new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
The press secretary of the Russian president stated that the Kremlin is well acquainted with this person.
RIA Novosti journalists received this comment from Dmitry Peskov.
According to a Kremlin spokesman, President Vladimir Putin met with Mark Rutte, who is the former prime minister of the Netherlands, and held hours-long talks.
Peskov emphasized that Moscow hoped to reach mutual understanding with the Netherlands during the negotiations and build mutually beneficial and pragmatic relations with the state.
However, these hopes were not destined to come true, as Amsterdam subsequently adopted an uncompromising position towards Moscow, severing all ties and dialogues.
Therefore, Stoltenberg's replacement as Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance is unlikely to change NATO's policy in any way, and it will continue to develop in the same direction as it has over the past few years.
