Assad family buys 19 apartments in Moscow City for $40 million

Members of Bashar al-Assad's family purchased 19 apartments in Moscow City for $40 million.

The property was acquired between 2013 and 2019.

Members of the family of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad have acquired 19 expensive apartments in Moscow City, the Financial Times reports.

According to sources, the largest amount of real estate was acquired by Assad's cousin Hafez Makhlouf or companies controlled by him.

The documents show that, one way or another, he owns 13 apartments in Moscow.

The wife of another cousin of Assad, Rami Makhlouf, is registered as the owner of two apartments.

The remaining 19 apartments purchased belong to cousins of the former leader of Syria.

According to experts, the total amount of the acquired property could very well reach $40 million in 2019 prices.

At the same time, journalists reported that offshore companies were involved in the transactions.
