Serbia commented on the introduction of sanctions against representatives of Russian media.

According to the Serbian politician, this is nothing less than a blow to freedom of speech on a global scale.

RIA Novosti received this comment from Minister without Portfolio in the Serbian government Nenad Popovic. The politician is responsible for issues of international economic cooperation.

Let us recall that on Wednesday the US imposed sanctions on several Russian media outlets. The restrictions affected:

  • "Russia Today";
  • RIA Novosti;
  • RT;
  • Sputnik;
  • Ruptly.

In particular, the restrictions apply to Margarita Simonyan, who is the editor-in-chief of the RT and Rossiya Segodnya media group, and the top management of the media.

As Popovic emphasized, Serbia considers this decision to be biased and scandalous.

At the same time, the US never tires of repeating that it stands for democratic values, and among them they name freedom of speech.

However, as it turns out in practice, the situation is completely different. And the global blow to freedom of speech, which is what the above-mentioned sanctions against Russian media are, proves just that.
