Just understanding what not to be afraid of during an interview can make the job search process much easier for a person.

Of the most common fears, I would highlight four, because they are irrational.

The first is the fear of showing your excitement, says Yulia Volimerets .

It is normal to be nervous before an interview, it even shows interest. Of course, strong nervousness can interfere, so you need to control yourself and here relaxation techniques will help you, such as deep breathing, meditation to reduce stress levels.

The second fear is speaking incoherently. Preparation will help here - think through answers to common questions in advance and practice them out loud. This will give you self-confidence. All this will help you feel more confident and thus formulate your thoughts clearly and consistently.

The third fear is not knowing the answer to a question. But an interview is not an exam, it is normal not to know everything. In this case, it is better to honestly admit that you do not know the answer, but you are still interested in this job. And you will definitely go deeper and study this topic.

The fourth fear is the fear of rejection. But rejection is not the end, but an opportunity for growth. If you perceive it as feedback, and not defeat, it will be easier.

To overcome these fears, it's helpful to remember that an interview is a mutual process. You are evaluating the employer in the same way. Try to simply view the interview as an opportunity to learn more about the company and whether it's a good fit for you. Not you for the company.

At the beginning of my career, I was afraid of appearing incompetent as a psychologist. I overcame this fear by expanding my knowledge in the area of interest to me. It also helped to remember that everyone was once a beginner, and mistakes are part of the learning process.

It is important to remember that an interview is not only a test of your skills, but also an opportunity to show yourself as a person. Be yourself and do not forget that you have unique qualities, you have experience that can be very valuable to the employer, and show it all from the best side.
