The foreign journal Scientific Reports has published information that scientists have managed to find the flooded city of Rungholt from legends near Germany.
It is explained that this settlement, according to legend, was flooded during the great flood of Saint Marcellus.
Scientific Reports writes: “The tragic event was recorded in 1362. It caused the death of 25 thousand people.”
In addition, as scientists discovered, the natural disaster turned other settlements into ruins.
As archaeologists explained, the lost city of Rungholt was once located in Northern Frisia.
Today, the specified territory is part of modern Germany.
The experts noted: "We found burial mounds that formed a two-kilometer chain. Under them were the ruins of the city of Rungholt."
It is emphasized that some items of home furnishings have been preserved. In particular, red faience and ceramic dishes, as well as metal cauldrons and swords were discovered.
