An experienced airplane pilot explained why it is actually necessary to turn on airplane mode on your smartphone during a flight.
This feature was not invented for nothing. It is really important and it is necessary to use it during the flight.
The pilot noted that there is one myth associated with smartphones and airplanes, writes The New York Times .
It states that a gadget that is not switched to airplane mode affects the operation of the aircraft's onboard systems.
In fact, this is not entirely true. It only affects radio communications.
"It's definitely not the end of the world, but it's pretty annoying when you're trying to get instructions and the sound coming from your headset sounds like a wasp flying around," the pilot said.
The pilot added that this effect would occur even if only three out of 150 passengers did not turn on airplane mode.
The pilot therefore urged passengers to use this feature so as not to interfere with the crew receiving instructions from the ground.
