The probability of WhatsApp blocking in Russia has been assessed
The situation with the popular messenger was clarified by the deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, Andrey Svintsov.
A member of the lower house of parliament confirmed that WhatsApp* could very well be blocked in Russia.
In a conversation with Lenta.ru , the deputy stated that there are a number of reasons why such a decision could be made.
Firstly, there are constant reports of the platform violating Russian legislation.
Secondly, the messenger cannot be called safe either for the Russian Federation as a whole or for any specific user.
The whole point is that correspondence and other sensitive information can be obtained by Western intelligence agencies without any unnecessary difficulties.
Svintsov noted that at first glance this information may seem insignificant.
But in reality, all this is “very serious.” Therefore, the authorities may well decide to block WhatsApp* in Russia. The probability is quite high.
Earlier, Elon Musk criticized the security of the WhatsApp messenger*.
*belongs to Meta Platforms, Inc., which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned.
