Vladimir Putin answered a question about the slowdown of a popular video service in Russia.
The president said YouTube and its owner, Google, had created their own problems.
The head of state spoke on this topic during a direct line. The broadcast of the event is available on the Kremlin website .
Putin noted that at the very beginning of its activities in the Russian Federation, Google created the appropriate legal entities, subsidiaries, and prepared the infrastructure for work.
The problems began when Western countries began to impose sanctions.
Against this backdrop, Google has either stopped or reduced funding and stopped supplying the necessary equipment.
Putin stressed that with these decisions the company itself created problems for YouTube’s operations.
The second point is related to the policy of the video service administration.
The head of state stressed that YouTube must comply with Russian legislation.
The President called the situation where a service can independently decide what to show to users and what to remove or block “fraud and abuse” of power.
In this case, Roskomnadzor was obliged to file a claim, which it did.
"And [Roskomnadzor] is doing the right thing. They [Google and YouTube] must choose," Putin concluded.
YouTube's slowdown in Russia has been observed since last summer.
