Finnish public broadcaster Yle has reported that the construction of a fence on the border with Russia will proceed as usual.
It is indicated that the relevant work will begin at the end of August 2024.
Yle writes: “The fences will be erected in the Nuijamaa region, which is located near the province of South Karelia.”
According to plans, the first construction phase will cover an area of 70 kilometers.
The head of the above-mentioned project, Erkki Matilainen, explained that the planning of the fence on the Finnish-Russian border has undergone adjustments.
Matilainen explained: “We added networks to the structure of the fence itself, and also laid electrical cables.”
The official indicated that, according to his calculations, the first part of the fence will be built in 2025.
The country's authorities plan to build a fence that will be 200 kilometers long. Such work will last until the summer of 2026.
