The State Duma has put forward a new initiative that concerns migrants.
The department proposed introducing criminal liability for the discovery of fictitious Russian language certificates in the possession of foreign citizens.
This initiative was put forward by deputies of the LDPR party, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the statement made.
A certificate of knowledge of the Russian language is a document without which citizens of foreign countries do not have the right to employment or residence in the territory of the Russian Federation.
It is noted that State Duma deputies are in favor of toughening the punishment for migrants who are found to have fictitious certificates of knowledge of the Russian language.
The LDPR believes that such an offense should be classified as a criminal offense and punished accordingly.
If the parliamentarians' initiative receives support, then migrants will be punished with imprisonment for up to 5 years.
It is noted that for this purpose the Criminal Code may be supplemented with a new criminal article.
