A responsible owner can accommodate a rodent and a predator in the same house.
The main thing is to know a couple of life hacks on how to do this without harming the body and psyche of both animals.
When to adopt an animal
It is best to introduce a cat to a rat when they are both still young. This way the animals will get used to each other more easily.

However, don't give up on the idea if both the rat and the cat are already quite old. In that case, here are some tips to help you out.
Preparation
If you are bringing a rat into a home where a cat already lives, there are a couple of things to consider:
- the rat's cage must be securely fastened;
- The door to the rodent's house should always be closed.
If the cat shows interest in the rat, do not scold it. In addition, you need to give the cat as much attention as before, so that it does not become jealous of the rodent towards you.
And remember: never feed a cat and a rat together. You can't let the cat doubt the safety of its food, otherwise the rodent will be in danger.
