Japanese paleontologists have announced that they have discovered the remains of a previously unknown creature off the coast of Great Britain.

It is reported that the animal found is believed to have lived in the North Atlantic during the Ice Age.

The experts published the results of their research in the foreign journal Phys .

The publication states, in particular: “The remains of the animal suggest that it once belonged to the walrus family.”

Details of the find

It is indicated that the researchers classified the discovered creature as a new species, which they named Ontocetus posti.

The scientists also noted: “Ontocetus posti existed during times when global cooling prevailed.”

It was the change in climate to a harsher one that subsequently contributed to the extinction of the above-mentioned animal species.

Subsequently, walruses, including modern ones, adapted and mutated, becoming the dominant species.
