Sled dog breeds are becoming increasingly popular in Russia.
Huskies, Malamutes, Samoyeds and other breeds have their own nuances of keeping that should definitely be taken into account.
Lack of physical activity
These dogs do not like to be idle for long periods of time. They enjoy long walks (at least two hours a day).
And it’s even better when the owners can provide them with dog sports classes.
Use for security
Sled dogs are not suited to this task by nature.
They are more people-oriented and do not have the aggressiveness that helps other breeds protect their owners and their property from intruders.
Poor grooming
These breeds are characterized by thick and often long fur, which is very convenient for all kinds of parasites to hide in.
Therefore, treatment against ticks and fleas is not a whim, but a necessity.
Shaving a sled dog is only allowed for veterinary reasons. If you do it on your own, you can harm the dog's health.
