Window decoration, oddly enough, is one of the main steps in interior design.
Regardless of whether you have plastic or wooden windows, the chosen curtains can “kill” the whole impression or, on the contrary, provide a stunning effect from the entire room.
It is easy to guess that when choosing curtains, many people make a lot of mistakes. Let's consider the main ones, says Yulia Tychino .

Density of curtain material
Mistake #1: The density of the tulle does not match the density of the curtains. In the classic version, there is a simple rule: the tulle should always be softer and lighter than the curtains.
If this is not done, the window will immediately become “heavier”, and different types of textiles, instead of organically coexisting, will simply overshadow each other.
And from a technical point of view, it is much more convenient: it is easier for sunlight to penetrate through light fabrics than through two layers of heavy material.
Correct placement of accents
Mistake #2: The emphasis is on curtains. All interior design experts agree that curtains are not a separate compositional element, but an addition to the existing interior, although a rather serious addition.
So consider not choosing overly colorful or bright fabrics for curtains, especially if the room already has a lot of flowers and colorful elements.
But for “monotonous” rooms in the Scandinavian style, colorful curtains are an ideal solution, especially if there are plastic windows, the prices for which are adequate, and the color schemes are calm.
Accessories for curtains
Mistake #3: Too many accessories. There are a lot of different details in stores: fringes, tassels, lambrequins, magnetic holders.
In some cases they look really good, but most often people try to hang as much stuff on the curtains as possible, and this spoils the interior at the root. The only case when tassels and lambrequins will be appropriate is the vintage style.
Length of curtains
Finally, mistake #4: curtains of the wrong length. The length of curtains directly depends on the room in which they will be placed.
If you hang floor-length curtains in the kitchen or in the nursery, this will, at the very least, cause inconvenience to the owners and guests. But in the living room and bedroom, on the contrary, it is better not to hang short curtains.
However, all of the above is not a dogma, and sometimes even mistakes can lead to excellent results. Experiment!
