Fashion is constantly changing, and designers often give new advice for decorating apartments and houses, rejecting solutions that were recently considered among the best.

However, classic interior design successfully stands the test of time; it has always been and will always be relevant.

Of course, when arranging a room in this style, no one is immune from mistakes, says Yulia Tychino .

What are the most common mistakes and how to avoid them?

Lack of a coherent image

The classical style involves the use of one direction, which is often tied to a specific country and era.

For example, if a person wants to furnish a room in a colonial style and at the same time use a wide variety of colors, such a solution will not correspond to the canons of the classical style due to the mixture of British and Italian design elements.

How to avoid? When decorating an interior, you need to give preference to one design direction and one era. When choosing wallpaper, furniture, accessories, etc., you need to select only those items that correspond to this direction and pay attention to how appropriate these elements will look in the room.

Scale and proportions in classical style

When sketching on paper, everything may seem perfect, but when bringing this picture into reality, problems may arise, and as a result, the room will look completely different from what people expected.

How to avoid? This style requires space. Even the most talented designer is unlikely to be able to create a high-quality classic design in a room with low ceilings: the room will seem cramped, and the furniture will be too bulky. In such cases, it is better to decorate the room in a different style, adding appropriate classic elements.

Use of unsuitable materials

Massive chandeliers, soft velvet chairs, wooden bookcases combined with plastic windows and laminate floors. Such elements of modern design will make the room look unreliable and cheap, and this definitely has nothing to do with classical aesthetics.

How to avoid? The designer should not forget about the chosen direction and select all elements in accordance with the era. Thus, marble floors and windows with wooden frames are better suited for decorating a room in a classic style.
