Boss Syndrome: Why Some People Are Rude to Their Colleagues

Although it is generally accepted that everyone is equal at work, especially when it comes to ordinary employees and not the board of directors, in reality, things are not so smooth.

A person comes to get a job at a new place, gets used to it, gets into the details, but literally in the very first days he encounters rudeness.

Moreover, it comes not from the boss, but from an employee like himself.

True, he is more experienced and older, but is that considered a valid reason? No one is allowed to be rude.

Most often, the initiators of work conflicts are representatives of the so-called "middle generation", that is, those who are between 45 and 60 years old.

They sincerely consider themselves veterans of production, especially if they have actually worked at a given enterprise for twenty to thirty years.

As a rule, these are not office clerks, but doctors, nurses, educators, nannies, accountants, economists, school teachers and university professors.

They have been in this cauldron for a long time and know everything from start to finish. Therefore, they are unable to remain silent when a newly-minted specialist makes mistakes or is unable to perform the simplest, in their opinion, work.

Impunity

What is meant here is that a certain employee is a priori helpless and vulnerable.

He becomes a direct target for ridicule and bullying, especially if it is a girl who does not have a husband or a permanent partner.

An unmarried woman is considered an excellent option for bullying, because there is no one to stand up for her. In addition, it is impossible to hide anything in a government agency, because the HR department vigilantly monitors personal data.

That's why everyone knows that the new girl lives with her mother and has never had a father, which is the reason for the rudeness.

The colleagues understand that no one will come to them with a showdown, so they become unbridled.

Envy

This is typical of a "friendly female team" in which gossip and backbiting never cease.

Ladies experience information hunger if they are unable to learn the details of someone else's life. They get angry at the sight of couples in love or happy young families, and they envy those who have consciously chosen loneliness.

Deep down, many of them would like to live their lives differently, but changing anything in adulthood is at least stupid. All that remains is to stare at the smarter youth and be rude to them at any convenient opportunity.

Hatred

This is a stronger feeling because it is based on personal dislike. If you can envy someone's appearance or intelligence, then you hate for specific actions.

For example, a newcomer showed himself to be a truly strong personality: he was not afraid to object to his boss, responded to rudeness, and demonstratively left the meeting at the first hint of disrespect towards himself.

For such behavior, as a rule, not only the rebel himself is punished, but also his immediate supervisor. And this is most often a remark, deprivation of a bonus, or even a full-fledged reprimand. Naturally, this is not forgiven, hence the rudeness.

So, negativity at work is usually related to psychological incompatibility. There are so many people in one building and everyone has their own quirks and demands.

It is very difficult to be in such an environment, so people opt for remote work, where they can work quietly alone, do not depend on anyone and do not communicate with anyone.

Social inequality and unfair treatment by the manager can also become a stumbling block.

The boss is simply driving out half of the team, forcing them to write a letter of resignation so as not to waste money on severance pay.
