FAS to demand explanation for gasoline price hike in Russia

Russian oil workers will be asked to explain the rise in gasoline prices.

The corresponding request will be sent by representatives of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS).

The agency will require oil companies to economically justify the increase in the wholesale price of AI-95 gasoline, RIA Novosti reports.

This issue was brought up for discussion during a meeting of the FAS Exchange Committee, which took place on July 17.

During the meeting, representatives of the department approved a decision to increase the volume of AI-95 sales on the exchange.

In mid-summer, a seasonal increase in demand for fuel of this particular brand is recorded.

The situation with gasoline prices

Since the beginning of July, AI-95 gasoline has increased in price by 1.2%. Similar growth was recorded for AI-92. AI-98 gasoline has increased in price slightly more – by 1.3%.

Since the end of 2023, gasoline prices in Russia have increased by 4.2%.

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak instructed the Ministry of Energy and the Federal Antimonopoly Service to monitor how fuel prices at gas stations change. The government member ordered that prices not be allowed to rise above inflation.
