Office "invisibles": why management does not notice the most responsible employees

Any institution functions like a well-oiled machine.

Each employee has his own job responsibilities, which are written down in the instructions that he follows.

Of course, when difficulties arise, more experienced old-timers come to the rescue, they will always insure, support, and advise. Ideally, this is how work at the enterprise should develop.

However, there are so-called "office invisibles", that is, people on whom essentially all the work rests, but no one notices it.

For example, an innovation in drug treatment centers is social workers. Their duties include home visits to registered patients - drug addicts and alcohol addicts.

They learn about the family environment, living conditions and talk about the need to visit a narcologist every month (the so-called “control visit”).

Previously, district nurses did this, but now they work exclusively in the clinic - they sit with the doctor during the appointment, conduct drug testing, and also periodically provide paid services (passing the commission for a driver's license, for training, for a weapon).

It would seem that there is nothing special about going to addresses and talking to people. But no one appreciates or notices this work, unless there are any difficulties (conflicts with patients, threats, attempts, giving deliberately false information).

Social workers almost never appear in the dispensary itself - only to fill out the home care journal, visit sheets and take new addresses. The rest of the time they are always on site.

They are the ones who find out, for example, that one of the patients has died or sold an apartment. But the head doctor, his deputies and the head of the department sometimes do not even know the names of these employees.

Main features of "invisibles"

Quality work. They are very conscientious, never complain or ask for help. If something happens, they will silently do or fix it.

Uncommunicative. These are usually introverts: quiet and reserved people who have no need to dine or smoke in the company of co-workers.

Responsibility. If they promised something, you can be sure that everything will be done. But you shouldn't expect long and heartfelt conversations from them.

For them, work is first and foremost a place to earn money, not a gathering of like-minded people and gossips. As a rule, everything is fine in their personal lives (in their understanding, of course, that is, they are happy and do not seek thrills). Therefore, looking for new friends, especially at work, is not their thing.

Quiet but decisive departure. If this employee is not happy with something or he has been forced to endure it for a long time, then he suffers from nervous exhaustion. He usually resigns of his own accord, without making scandals or weaving intrigues.

Just one fine day, a resignation letter appears on the manager's desk. This is a typical phlegmatic person - hardworking, insensitive, even at first glance indifferent. But at the same time, he is firm in his decision, especially if he is emotionally burned out at work.

These employees, unfortunately, are noticed only when it is necessary to part with them. The entire team immediately understands that, in fact, everything depended on these unknown people.

They did monotonous and routine work, did not conflict with anyone, rarely left the office. But their indicators were always high, and there were no complaints from the management.

There are almost no such workers in offices anymore, because they are gradually switching to freelancing. The volumes offered by customers do not scare them, but they do not depend on anyone. At home, in a familiar environment, they will definitely never get tired.

Earlier I talked about why people don’t value themselves .
